The 2019 Halloween Bocce Tournament was a great success. 24 players showed up with costumes ready to eat a grand buffet lunch and play bocce. The lunch was buffet style and there was so much food the players didn’t think they could play because of the amount of food they ate. Nevertheless, the tournament went on. Six four person teams drew cards and each team played 5 games. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the lunch and tournament so much, they want to do it again for Christmas.

The Laguna Niguel Bocce Ball Club information booth was a great success. Members of the club were available for the 3 days and nights of the event to pass out information flyers and answer questions on bocce ball. Everyone who helped out at the information booth had fun meeting new people and explaining the joys of bocce. An enthusiastic invitation to come out and play was given to over a hundred interested people.
Special thanks to all the club members who helped man the booth, Joe and Joan Somo, John and Barbara Cummings, Steve Ward, Orly Barrola, Jamie Drag, Gino Leo, Ciff Kass, Chuck and Carol Perret, and Magic Mike Peters.
My wife and I discovered the game of Bocce while riding our bikes past the courts at Marina Hills Park in Laguna Niguel. Every time we passed the courts we saw people playing Bocce and having fun. We were searching for another recreational sporting activity where we could meet people and I finally decided to investigate. I stopped by the court and asked how I could get involved. Pietro the group leader immediately welcomed me and teamed me up with an experienced player to teach need how to play. I learned how to roll the ball and the rules in 15 minutes. I joined a team and started to play that morning. Everyone was friendly and gave me helpful advice on the strategy and the rules of the game.
We learned that Bocce is a game for all ages and abilities. Anyone that can roll a ball can play. Women equally compete with men. Age, agility and physical strength and the better players.
